Happy Deepavali everyone! I have never made dhal so this is a step up from a regular dhal but I am guessing, just omit the meat to make the dhal recipe.
Again, I apologize that there is not specific amount listed as my mom wouldn't tell the specifics.
Ingredients
.5 cup of Dhal
Meat with bones (preferably mutton or beef)
Cumin powder
Turmeric powder
chili powder
Potatoes
Carrots
Tomatoes
one whole Onions
one whole Garlic
2 inches Ginger
Cinnamon stick
Flower
Cumin seed
fennel seed
mustard seed
Tamarind
1. Soak the Dhal for 30 minutes so that it will cook faster.
2. Add meet with bones and soaked dhal in rena ware (since I don't have pressure cooker). Add salt and let it boil. You may choose to add garam masala. Add water enough for it to boil. Cover it initially but leave it open when it starts boiling.
3. Add cumin powder, turmeric powder and a little chili powder, potatoes, carrots, and tomatoes.
4. On another pan, cook onions, pounded garlic, ginger, cinnamon, star anise, cumin seed, mustard seed. One that mixture is cooked, add to the dhal mixture.
5. Finally add tamarind juice or lime juice and taste.
